Belonging
be·long·ing
What does Belonging mean?
The feeling of being accepted as you are, as part of something. Belonging is being at home among others.
Another way of seeing Belonging
Fitting in and belonging look alike, but they're opposites. Fitting in means changing yourself to be accepted. Belonging means being accepted without the change. That's why you can't force belonging. But you can grow it: by showing up repeatedly, contributing something real, and making room for others to belong too.
Belonging in relationships
Look for someone on the edge of the group today — at work, at a gathering, online — and draw them in. Belonging often begins with one person making space.
Belonging in everyday life
Show up again somewhere you'd like to belong: the class, the café, the club. Belonging is mostly built from repetition.
Carry this with you
Fitting in asks you to change. Belonging doesn't.
