Respect
re·spect
What does Respect mean?
Treating people, places and yourself as though they matter — because they do.
Another way of seeing Respect
The word comes from the Latin respicere: to look again. Respect is the second look — past the first impression, the label, the assumption — to see what's actually there. Most disrespect isn't cruelty. It's carelessness, the failure to look twice. Which means respect is available to all of us, right now, for the cost of a little attention.
Respect in relationships
Respect lives in small habits: being on time, remembering the detail, not interrupting, not making them the joke. Love can begin without respect, but it can't last without it.
Respect in everyday life
Give someone a second look today: the person behind the counter, the colleague you've filed away, the neighbour you've never really met.
Carry this with you
Look again.
